Many people are now well aware of motion control gaming due to Nintendo’s success with the Nintendo Wii. This is causing many companies to want get a piece of that pie. Microsoft and Sony are prime examples of this. Sony’s motion control technology is called the PlayStation Move and Sony has been demonstrating it for about a year now. Just recently Sony got to show off a lot about it.
At the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Sony gave a more in-depth look at Move and showed some games coming for it. Judging by the titles that were shown, Move is designed to appeal more to the hardcore gaming crowd as opposed to Microsoft’s Kinect and the Nintendo Wii which seem to be more appealing the casual gaming market. This works well in Sony’s favor because there is not many hardcore motion control games. It will be a great change to get a chance to play some sort of violent, shooting game with motion technology.
Move also has extremely accurate technology associated with it. This technology allows for perfect one-to-one movement by using both a controller and a camera. This one-to-one movement is not something you see with much technology which puts Sony ahead of the rest of the game.
However, it is not just the accuracy and games that will win fans over. It is also the price. The cost of the Move controller is only $50, and to get it with a game and the navigation controller in a bundle, it will cost about $99. To get the whole set (a game, Move controller, navigation controller, and camera), it will probably cost around $150. This price point is not bad as other technology is just as expensive to have. This works very well for Sony.
The question people are asking is whether or not the PlayStation Move can succeed. With Microsoft having motion technology that requires holding nothing, and Nintendo already being in this motion control craze for a while, can Sony also do well? With a good price point, accuracy, and hardcore games, the answer is yes.
